On a bright but breezy April evening the President's XIII won the toss
and decided unsurprisingly to bat in a reduced 12 over match. Whilst
failing to capture any wickets the Ravens opening attack of Kirk and
debuntant Pierre bowled well and kept the run rate down aided by a slow
and heavy outfield. Batting retirements followed but the run rate
remained slow as Michael replaced Kirk but Daryl did his best to
move the Presidents score towards the 100 mark with some early season
looseners. All this meant that at the end the President's XIII
finished on 82-1.
The Ravens also found batting conditions difficult with only some lusty
blows from Kirk keeping the scoreboard moving. Wickets fell at
regular intervals and 35 odd required from the final 4 overs didn't
promising in the inpending gloom of Victoria Park. However the day
was saved by man of match Ben who hit a match winning 26 before being
bowled (probably due to exhaustion as all the runs were run!) shortly
before the end. Finally in virtue darkness Michael and Darly
scampered the winning single off the penultimate ball of the innings to
win it for the Ravens (finishing on 83-4).
A good evening for the Ravens was completed when president Bert
presented the league trophy to a delighted captain Daryl.
Both teams then retired to the pub to thaw out and reflect on an
excellent match played in good spirits throughout.
