Sky began their 2009 campaign with a convincing victory over league
debutants Old Ranwellians by the not inconsiderable margin of 130 runs.
Having lost the toss Sky were expecting to be in the field especially given
the smaller size of Pitch 1, however much to their surprise the Old
Ranwellians offered first use of the strip to the opposition.
The old Ranwellian new ball partnership of James and Jimmy (after removing
Ayaz in the 2nd over) bowled with a great degree of control and kept the run
rate around the 6 per over mark. However the supporting cast was a tad more
profligate and once the middle order partnership of Ahmed and Soomro had
gauged the pitch the onslaught began to which the Old Ranwellians had no
answer. Sky's innings finally concluded on 171 with a well deserved half
century for Ahmed and Soomro just falling short of the landmark.
Sky decided to open with Rizwan Siddiqui and Aleem Hussain and with the 1st
wicket falling in Siddiqui's second over the floodgates opened as he tore
through the Old Ranwellians batting line up picking up 4 wickets, with
Hussain and Ansab grabbing a wicket apiece the Ranwellian innings subsided
in the 9th over with the score on 41.
