London Fields finished the season on a high after beating VPCCL cup
semi-finalists Contenders.
Setting the opposition a mammoth target of 184 gave the Fields bowlers
confidence to attack the Contenders batsmen. Two overs in, Tyrone dropped a
simple catch, 184 wasn't looking as unattainable as first thought. However,
Will Isaac saved Tyrone's blushes with a spectacular catch at deep midwicket
and it all went down hill for the Contenders from there.
Three wickets from Paul Turley (2 coming off the last 2 deliveries of his
spell) and tight bowling at the other from Steve Donelan effectively ended
any hopes the Contenders had of an improbable victory.
Chris Skinner than came on to show off his patented "moon-ball" which had
one particular Contender in all sorts of trouble, so much so that he was
stumped three times - 3rd time being the charm though as he was finally given
out. The last Contender came in and then left seconds later, bowled first
ball.
A good match played in good spirit. Congrats to all involved for getting on
with game as a scoring dispute threatened to ruin the match, with light
fading, and tempers running high - a resolution was quickly found.
Thanks to the VPCCL administration for another well run season, and a
special thanks to Bert for the orange balls!
See you all in 2010.
