Nozmul Husain's superb all round performance, ably assisted by Shakeel
Durrani's bowling, led Sky to a second successive victory in Division 1 ,
this time against league debutants Safe Skills on a sultry evening at
Victoria Park.
Having won the toss and electing to bat Sky sent in brothers Aleem and
Nozmul Husain to open their account, this they did in some style as Nozmul
in particular tore the Skill's opening attack to shreds reaching 40 at the
end of the 5th over whilst younger sibling was just on 10. One shot too many
accounted for Nozmul in the next over, however Aleem and Haris Ali
maintained the brisk tempo as both reached and then retired on 50s.
A flurry of runs of the last two overs meant Sky had posted a
competitive 172-2 in their 16 overs. Safe Skills began their chase with the
loss of a wicket in the first over as the pressure of keeping up with the
run rate led to a run out. A second wicket soon followed as Rizwan accounted
for opener Shahid, caught behind.
Safe Skills began to regroup and with 80-2 off 8 overs seem set to
launch a genuine attempt at the target, however Victoria Park veteran
Shakeel Durrani had other ideas and (along with Nozmul who picked up two
wickets in two balls) began to dismantle Skill's middle and lower order with
a precision becoming of an experienced campaigner.
Proceedings ended when Shakeel took the final wicket in the 14th over
resulting in a Sky victory by 48 runs.
