This is tale of the first sign of a cricketing summer as the willow warbler
A. Solanki Esq of TCCC was donning whites for the first time in 3 seasons.
One shall start by saying that the weather was stunning and even losing the
toss did not affect the moral of the team.
HDCC started slowly but accelerated with the help of some unique moral
boosing vociferous chants from the supporting cast for HDCC. TCCC's skipper
Steve (McQueen)Williams & vice-captain Cain (KING) Duncan combo on this
occasion had somthing close to the midas touch.
The term leading by example is certainly apt. Cain (KING) Duncan was
on a hat-rick twice during this contest (although he was not allowed to
attempt the second hatrick as HDCC were, alas, ALL OUT) and ended up with
crisp figures of 4-11 of 3.2 overs Steve (McQueen)Williams chipped in with
2-29 and took 4 catches..including one of the finest caught and bowled's you
will ever see!
And a special note for the amazing fielding of ball magnets (Thatched)
Maroof Ahmed and Rob E Waugh( Lord). TCCC's stalwart, (the Duke of) Kenneth
Marshall (LAW) has a double nickname and rightly so as he took two catches
behind the stumps - certainly reminiscente of the hairy days of Godfrey
Evans Esq. HDCC 105 ALL OUT in 15.2 overs.
TCCC took to the cease with the legendary duo of Rob E Waugh(Lord) &
(the Duke of) Kenneth Marshall (LAW). They are certainly old atomic number
79! Alas, (the Duke of) Kenneth Marshall (LAW) holed out for 5 with the
score at 9. Bringing to the crease skipperoo, Steve (McQueen)Williams, who
timed 7 half centuries last season.
A partnership of 90 runs ensued with Steve (McQueen)Williams retiring
NOT OUT 50 with 7 boundaries and six. Rob E Waugh (Lord) was made to run
like Linford Christie in Barcalona in 1992.
Pure Aurum! Upon retirement of the skipperoo, new recruit to TCCC Ross
Arnold (Circus)was bought to the crease....Rob E Waugh(Lord) continued
punching the ball off the back foot, leg glancing and pulling to end with a
score of 42 not out inclusive of six boundaries.
Ross Arnold (Circus) ended with aplomb, a maximum! SIX! TCCC 110-1 off
10.5 overs. A steady start to the season for the Cavaliers.....and plenty of
room for improvement for a young and enthusiastic (and potentially powerful)
Hackney Downs side.
But as the saying goes....too many cooks spoil the broth.
