A tale of two innings....One that reached a double ton and one that reached a singular ton. The punctual OFF THE HOOK cricket club club were making their debut in VPCCL. It ended up being a debut to remember in more ways than one...

Their skipper, the BALD EAGLE, Dan lost the toss. TCCC skipper, Steve'O' (MCQUEEN) Williams, therefore won his first toss of the season and put the opposition into the green pastures of pitch one....

Steve'O' (MCQUEEN) Williams opened the innings with the old suffolk shire horse, Mr Rob E Waugh(LoRD). Steve'O' (MCQUEEN) Williams retired not out on 50 leaving his opening batter to continue the anchor role like ship in HULL CITY. The batting retirement of the skipper gave the youngish Andrew (DEADLY TWIN) Dickson a chance to continue his solid form from the previous game against the ROSE&CROWN. He did continue it..

He also stroked and powered his way to a retired not out 50. In doing so a blast from the past (the halcyon days) came to the crease Alkesh (LORD LUCAN) Solanki....This prompted the old suffolk shire horse to play like a IPL mercenary and thus he amassed another solid score...retired not out on 50. Debut boy, donnin shades in the most overcast conditions and noted for always looking on the bright side of life, Phil Price (is RIGHT)entered the fray...11 not out. 224-0 off 16 overs.

Were the cavaliers about to let their opposition off the hook? It did not turn out that way... Opening bowler, (DARK KNIGHT) Maroof Ahmed, gave the HOOKERS a glimmer, as his first dis(thatched) for 19 runs, but that was a blip in the grand scheme of things as the DARK KNIGHT tighten up the loose deliveries and over two spells ended up with figures of 0-38 off 3 overs. Works in progress for the DARK KNIGHT in the nets....and the rewards will be reaped. Chasing such a large target was always going to be difficult.

Only an exceptional innings and big partnerships could have won the day. Alas for the OT HOOK(ERS) the Cavaliers took regular wickets and the biggest partnership was their last wicket combo of the BALD EAGLE skipper Greg not out 28 & his trusty commander the WEREWOLF, Alex..not out 25. A 60 run partnership....Stunning effort given the situation.

The absolute highlight of the bowling effort was the debut wicket for Mr Phil (the) Price (is RIGHT) and the one - two combination he had with the (DUKE of) Kenneth Marshall(LAW). The latter, being the man behind t he stumps for the cavaliers, held firm with chin up, and stumped the Joe L with aplomb. A professional effort; completly forgetting the disaster of Notts Forest defeat in the championship playoffs the night before.

Well bowled, young sirs, Mr Cain (KING) Duncan 4 0 14 3 Mr Alkesh (LORD LUCAN) Solanki 2 0 16 2 Mr Phil (the) Price (is RIGHT) 2 0 19 1

The game was played in grey, gloomy conditions. Certainly not a reflection on the way either side took to their respective tasks. One can only wish all the best to OFF THE HOOK for the rest of the season. They play the game by the book, the book of fariness and sportsmenship. Godspeed.
