Old Ranwellians v Victoria Lounge
|
| Thursday 14 July 2011, Victoria Park |
Old Ranwellians won by 96 runs
Old Ranwellians won the toss and chose to bat first
Old Ranwellians: 166 for 3 in 16 overs
Ford 52*
Eaton 50*
Victoria Lounge: 70 for 7 in 11.4 overs
Dunning 31
Ford 3-14 Eaton 2-7
Greening succeeded in winning the toss for once, and shrewdly elected to bat
as opening bowler James Culley once more displayed his excellent grasp of
the notion of time by showing up nearly an hour late for the second game
running.
This turned out well for Old Ranwellians, as they put on arguably their best
display with the bat in their short history. Hudson set the tone with a huge
six over mid off off the 3rd ball, before falling for a disappointing 16
after miscuing another lofted drive.
This paved the way for Eaton and Ford to come together for an orgy of
hitting; a scratchy Eaton made his second 50 of the season off 33 balls,
with the occasional delicious shot in amongst other more fortunate, ugly
ones. And even better was Ford's 52 off a mere 23 balls, the highlight of
which was a forehanded 6 over mid on that Novak Djokovic would've been proud
of.
This was Ford's first 50 in competitive cricket in our 3 years - one can
only hope the floodgates have now opened.
Endley continued the hitting with 3 firmly struck boundaries of his own, and
the lower order of Greening (11), Culley (10*), Nash (7*) kept the pressure
up on the disconsolate Lounge bowlers with strike rates not far off 200
each. Dales, Smith and Elric claimed a wicket apiece, as Old Ranwellians
reached 166-3 off their 16 Lounge got their chase off to a good start, as
Dunning (31) especially showed off a mastery of the cut.
"Wicket Machine" (Ford, 2011) Greening came into the attack and removed a
Lounge opener with a full toss, which paved the way for Ford to record a
superb 3-14 off his 4 overs. This included 3 wickets for 3 runs off 18
deliveries - quite remarkable statistics, and included a wicket maiden,
matching his skipper's achievement earlier in the season. Kirk managed to
get hold of Greening and hit him for 4 consecutive boundaries, only to
foolishly run himself out moments later.
It was left to Eaton to mop up the innings, his pace bowling claiming 2
accurate bowleds. All in all it was an excellent all round performance from
Old Ranwellians, with even the fielding sharp to complement the hostile,
accurate bowling. Hopefully this will lead to an unbeaten charge for the
final few games of the season.
Thanks to Victoria Lounge for a good game played in the right spirit, and
best of luck for the rest of the season
