Well, you only have to look at the scores and know this was a tight match -
a very tight match indeed.
East 8 wanted to field first our wish was granted when our captain Abby duly
lost the toss(as he has done all season) and the Lounge decided to have a
bat.
And bat they did, getting off to a flying start with some very controlled
and measured shots especially from their danger man James. East 8 bowlers
persevered and the first break through came with Al caught behind- this was
followed by another period of consolidation from the Lounge and it wouldn't
be til their score reached 98 before we took the next wicket.
Now the pendulum swung our way and wickets fell regularly As both Ali and
Zam served up some devilish spin bowling. With the last ball bowled the
Lounge had put together a decent 134 runs leaving us 135 to win. In went
Kash and Babs for East 8 to begin the chase, we lost Babs early whilst the
other end saw Kash continue his recent form and was dishing out his usual
mix of determined and swash buckling treatment to what the Lounge bowlers
had to offer.
Zam joined the party and matched Kash shot for shot-both progressing towards
seemingly comfortable 50's when Kash-looking for one over the top saw his
stumps fall in a heap. over to the captain Abby to join Zam and get the
remaining 20-odd runs required from 3-odd overs, easy!!-well so we thought.
By now the Lounge had changed tact and were bowling good-accurate spin, the
boundaries had dried up. Abby tried with a spirited 14 but was run out. It
all came to the last over, infact the last ball-we needed 4 from it-we
managed 2. An excellent game played in excellent spirit -the margins for
east-8 were very narrow, win and we would have been almost guaranteed 2nd
spot, loose and we could finish 3rd, 4th, 5th, depending on results.
We wait now nervously to see how the other results go and where we end up.
Well done East 8, considering that every member of the team was fasting we
showed tremendous energy and drive to make it a memorable last game for
season 2011!
Can't help feeling it was our game to lose especially considering two of our
batsmen had amassed 100 runs for us but-with the finishing post in sight,
glory just moments away and the target just a millimetre from us, the Lounge
proved it ain't over til the fat lady sings!!
