Masiha won by 1 wicket
Island Community won the toss and chose to bat first
Island Community: 165 for 2 in 16 overs
Rob 52*
Jason 4-27-0-3
Masiha: 166 for 6 in 15.5 overs
Rahil 67*
Adnan Khan 35
Adnan Majid 25
Jamal 4-17-0-1
A real thriller of a game which included 330 runs, 10 wickets in only 32
overs of cricket (16 either side).
Island won the toss and decided to bat, their two openers got off to a flyer
with both openers helping them selves to a boundary feast, Rob in particular
looked good and reached 50 with in the first 5/6 overs of the innings.
However, a inspired bowling change from Masiha Captain bought Jamal to the
bowling crease who returned great figures of 4-17-0-1 with his medium
pacers, brilliant effort and really put a hand brake on the escalating
Island run rate.
Island rallied and ended up posting a more than useful 165 off there 16
overs. Masiha’s reply could not have got off to a worst start with opener
Imran top edging off the 2nd ball of the innings (caught and bowled).
However, this bought together the two Adnans (Majid and Khan) in a
flourishing partnership that took Masiha close to 50 plus, but with the run
rate always climbing both Adnans perished trying to play big shots.
Enter Rahil, with a mountain to climb in front of him Rahil put on a real
exhibition with a flurry of 6s and 4s in a amazing knock of 70 odd (this
included one of the biggest sixes I have ever seen at the VPCCL).
Amazingly, Masiha had taken the game to the last over with the last batting
pair (Rahil Shahzad and Harris Sidiquui) and required 10 off the last over.
In a thrilling final over that included dropped catches, run out
opportunities and boundaries, Rahil Shahzad and Harris Siddiqui held their
nerves and took Masiha home. A great advert for the VPCCL, Masiha upset the
form table and won by 1 wicket
