Tawheed entered this game with a mathematical chance of winning the
league, if New boys beat Dynamite Ducks. So for Tawheed there was all to
play for.
Island community, on the other hand, had 'bigger fish to fry' with a cup
final looming in 4 days time. They looked below strength, possibly had
rested some of their superstars for their debut in the VPCCL cup final.
On the hottest day of the year, Tawheed's Ramadan-observing players entered
the field having lost the toss. Island batted valiantly but an accurate
opening spell from Zubby and Nadeem meant Island Community had 2 players
back in the hutch inside 4 overs, with wickets falling regularly and some
hungry fielders, the boundary was very difficult to find for the Islanders.
Tanjim and Joe threatened with some stylish shots including the 'Dilshan
scoop' from Tanj & 'reverse sweeping' from Joe.
However a run rate of under 8 an over in the VPCCl was always going to be
difficult to defend on the smaller pitch 2 track.
Tawheed skipper had kept his players in the hope that a superior run rate
was going to get them their 1st league title, so the Tawheed batsmen went
out 'all hell for leather'.
With Malik and Nadeem looking especially dangerous. Teenager Mohammed Khan
made his debut and looks like a future superstar of the VPCCL in the making-
as he made a quckfire 15 off one over.
Some exquisite timing and his version of the 'Dhoni Helicopter' shot kept
the Island boundary straddlers busy. He then decided to retire after showing
us one over of his skills to make way for Tawheed's latest recruit - our
very own Chair - Rizwan of Sky.
Not only had he bailed out Tawheed at the last minute, but he marshalled the
shorter pitch 2 boundary as if his life depended on it and hit the winning
runs on his debut ! Well done Riz and well done Tawheed for another
relatively successful campaign.
